Mrs. Rachel H Ruttley

Rachel H. Ruttley was born in Gretna, Louisiana in 1986. She graduated Magna Sum Laude from W.P. Davidson High School in Mobile, Alabama in 2004 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology with a minor in Related Sciences from the University of South Alabama in Mobile, Alabama in May 2010. From Fall 2005 to May 2010 Mrs. Ruttley worked at the Environmental Studies Center in Mobile, Alabama as a wildlife aide. This student position enabled her to work hands-on with native birds, reptiles, and mammals. It also instilled a deep respect for conservation and protecting indigenous wildlife.

Mrs. Ruttley was awarded a three-year Graduate Assistantship from the University of South Alabama’s Biology Graduate Program in 2010.  During her master's studies, she worked as the project coordinator (Fall 2013- Fall 2014) on Restore Dog River Shores, a habitat restoration project for the local nonprofit environmental organization, Dog River Clearwater Revival. In May 2015, Rachel earned a Master of Science degree in Biology in July 2015.

After her graduate studies, Mrs. Ruttley started to pursue a career in secondary science education. She started teaching in the fall of 2015 in the Mobile County School System and transferred to Chickasaw City School Systems in the Fall of 2016. She has taught high school science, Dual Enrollment Biology through Bishop State Community College, and middle school science during her tenure. She is currently teaching 7th Grade Life Science and 8th Grade Physical Science.

Mrs. Ruttley has achieved The National Certificate for STEM Teaching and is participating in the TEAMS program for Math and Science teachers. Mrs. Ruttley has acted as a STEM/STEAM instructor for the CHS 21st Century Tribe Time afterschool and summer programs for many years. She is also the CMS Cheer coach this year and is excited for the 2022-2023 school year.

Mrs. Ruttley loves to spend time with her 3 kids and husband. She enjoys learning new things, gardening, taking care of her many pets, and rehabbing and releasing native wildlife in her free time.
